Googel Assistant. Google’s personal assistant

If you are an Android user, then pick up your phone, long press your phone’s home button and bang! Google Assistant (your mobile personal assistant) will gently ask you, ‘Hello, how can I help?’. Just like this, leaving our small tasks like calling a person, sending an SMS or setting up an alarm, days after days digital assistants like Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri are becoming a part of our life. We use a lot of tech throughout the day of our life, daily. And we can leave some of the duties of our daily life to these AI (Artificial Intelligence) and make the work done more quickly and efficiently.

Today, specifically we’re talking about making routine using these assistants. What they will do is, they will shortcut a bundle group of actions and tasks by just ordering a voice command. Let me give you an example of how this routine would work. Suppose you’ve just woken up in the morning and tells Alexa ‘Alexa, Good Morning‘, and instantly all the lights are turned on, a morning motivation playlist starts blaring from the speaker. Or on an iPhone, you tell Siri that, ‘Siri, I’m going home.‘ and instantly Siri starts to send a text message to all of your family members, opens up the navigation screen to your way home on Apple map. The fun part of making a routine is, you can customize your AI(!) routine according to your daily routine and daily needs. So, let’s read this article and learn how to make your own routine shortcuts for Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri.

Alexa

Routines in the Amazon Alexa app.

At first, in order to create a routine on Alexa, you need to download the Alexa App from Google PlayStore or iOS Appstore. Then you need to input your Amazon credential. There you go. And if you own an Amazon-powered device, then you also have to connect it to the internet. Right now routine is compatible only on Amazon Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Show and Echo Dot.

Now to begin all the procedure, fire up the app and click on Menu, at the top left corner of the app and pick ‘Routine’. After that, the app will run you through some demo instruction. Then you will be ready to start. To start, hit the ‘Plus‘ ‘+‘ icon in the top right corner. Then tap ‘When this happens‘. Here you can specify the time or voice command that will trigger the action. In order to use your voice command, tap ‘Voice‘. But you can also make a routine under other circumstances as it can automatically run at a scheduled time (tap Schedule) or when you push an Echo button, (select Echo Button) or something you want to happen to other smart devices (select Device).

As like the Alexa, Google Assistant Routine works in the same way. You have to control it through Google Assistant app for both Android and iOS. Otherwise, if you have a Smart Google Home device, then you also have to connect them.

Once you download the app on your Android or iPhone, you got to give your credential to log in. Then go to More > Setting > Assistant to go to the Routines. Then discover the provided samples like Good morning or Bedtime. Then you can see some options or actions to choose from. You can make changes by check or uncheck any particular action to exclude from the routine. And when you are ready to create your own routine, then click on the ‘Plus‘ ‘+‘ icon on the bottom right corner of the app. First, pick Add commands to specify the voice command which will launch the actions. Also, you can set a certain action which will launch at a certain time of the day by selecting ‘Set a time and day‘ button.

Now, if you are happy with the routine, then hit the tick icon on the top right corner of the app. And if sometimes you need to edit or delete the routine, then go the setting section of the Assistant app and pick the routine to edit or trash it.
